History of Collison Cut Flowers

The Collison family have been producing high quality, fresh cut flowers in
West Norfolk for three generations.

Tuxhill Farm was purchased in 1966 by Bryan and June (J. A.) Collison and it has been the centre of the business since then. The Farm was originally run as a traditional market garden producing many seasonal crops including fruit, salads and flowers for wholesale. Flowers were always an important part of the rotation and gradually grew to become the mainstay of the business.
The business in its current form was set up in 1994 following the untimely death of Bryan Collison. Son Philip and his wife Diane returned to take over the running of the business alongside June. Brothers Martin and Ian also became partners in the business and assisted when time allowed. The decision was quickly made to start supplying cut flowers to the multiple retailers, a new and rapidly growing market at the time. Over the next few years the business grew steadily with flowers becoming ever more important. Customer demand grew steadily as flowers became a key part of the UK supermarket offer. This supermarket business gradually overtook sales to the traditional flower wholesalers. In 1997 the business expanded in to another rented site, increasing production to keep pace with customer demand. In 2001 another site was purchased, again adding to the production area. In that year Ian Collison returned to the business full time after finishing his education. Around this time the amount of on farm packing began to increase dramatically driven by customer demands for the freshest product and improved efficiency. Producing packed product, ready for direct dispatch in to store allowed value to be added to the product, boosting returns.
Further expansion has followed and today we find ourselves one of the largest seasonal flower producers in the UK. Martin left the business in 2008 to pursue his own business interests, but the business remains entirely family run. The last few years have seen new development at Tuxhill Farm, with more glasshouse area, a biomass heating system and improved infrastructure. The vast majority of our flowers are now packed here on farm.
We are proud to be a sustainable family run business, and our history is an important part of what guides us in business.

We care about how we farm and grow as Tuxhill Farm is also our family home.
