Accreditation and Sustainability

Our business is run with sustainability at the forefront of everything we do. Tuxhill Farm is our home and we care deeply about the local and wider environment. In order to demonstrate our commitment to doing business in the right way we are accredited and assessed against a number of industry standards.

BOPP - The British Ornamental Plant Producers' Certification Scheme (BOPP) has been designed for use by growers and packers of ornamental horticultural products. We were one of the first cut flower growers to achieve BOPP accreditation and we continue to be annually audited against the BOPP standard. BOPP assesses all aspects of our business and drives professionalism and sustainability. Audits look at staff issues, crop management, environmental responsibility, record keeping and traceability. This means that our customers can have faith in the quality, safety and consistency of our products and service.

LEAF - Linking Environment and Farming (LEAF) is a well known nationwide charity working to encourage and develop sustainable practice in UK agriculture and horticulture. LEAF also works hard to promote public understanding of farming, delivering a number of projects with the most high profile being Open Farm Sunday. We are proud supporters of LEAF and we are LEAF Marque accredited for all of our flower products. This commits us to an annual audit against LEAF’s rigorous, industry leading environmental standards alongside on farm measures to protect and encourage wildlife. Projects such as our butterfly banks and wild flower meadow have been aided by advice from LEAF and their partner charities. We have also taken part in Open Farm Sunday, allowing local people to visit the farm and see what we do first hand. LEAF have been invaluable in helping us run these events which have helped us to understand our end consumer, and shown our visitors the lengths we go to to get our flowers on to the supermarket shelf in the most sustainable way possible.

M&S Plan A - Plan A is Marks and Spencer’s commitment to run their business in the most sustainable way possible with the ultimate aim of becoming the world’s most sustainable major retailer. This involves us as a proud M&S supplier working to make their supply chain more efficient and environmentally friendly. We were recognised in 2012 with a Plan A award in recognition of our development of carbon neutral biomass heating for our winter tulip production. We have had a great deal of support and encouragement from the team at M&S in developing our business over the years and plan A is an extension of this. Their goal is the same as ours, namely a sustainable and environmentally friendly flower supply based on a strong relationship and rewards for green investment.

Sedex- Sedex is a not for profit membership organisation dedicated to driving improvements in ethical and responsible business practices in global supply chains. Sedex is an on line platform bringing together our accreditation information in one place for customers to quickly check our status. Sedex covers labour standards, ethics, health and safety and the environment.

ETI - The Ethical Trading Initiative deals with staff relations and as supermarket suppliers we are regularly audited against ETI standards. This is a very thorough assessment of our working practices and involves auditing of our policies and procedures alongside interviews with staff to ensure we are working in an ethical manner. We employ large numbers of people and they are key to our success.

Red Tractor Assurance - Our arable farm products are certified against the Red Tractor standards. We are audited annually which ensures the safety and sustainability of our arable produce.
